OEM Motor Customization Guidelines
At Molon Motor & Coil Corporation, standard catalog specifications represent only the baseline of our production capabilities. For over seven decades, our U.S.-based engineering team has designed specialized fractional horsepower (FHP) AC and DC motors and gearmotors engineered specifically for medium- to high-volume OEM programs.
Whether your design demands specific voltage tolerances, low-noise helical gearing, extreme thermal management, or positive-holding mechanical brake assemblies, Molon provides fully validated modifications built to your mechanical envelope and duty-cycle targets.
Molon DC platforms offer versatile voltage configurations, custom electronic feedback options, and reinforced mechanical drive components tailored for battery-operated machinery, medical devices, commercial food equipment, and industrial automation systems.
Designed for continuous fixed-speed duty, Molon Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) and Shaded Pole AC gearmotors can be specified with numerous thermal, mechanical, and electrical features to match global utility standards.
For applications requiring immediate stopping, position holding, or disengagement of motor inertia, Molon offers four specialized rotor brake and clutch systems designed to enhance control accuracy and protect driven machinery.
Enables ultra-fast stopping action by instantly disengaging high rotor inertia from the gear train upon electrical de-energization. This option is exceptionally effective for stopping drag-type loads at the output shaft while allowing the output shaft to turn freely by hand when power is off. (Designed for horizontal mounting positions.)
Utilizes high-friction cork disks forced together by an internal rotor spring when the motor is de-energized. Stops the motor shaft within 8 to 12 rotor revolutions (depending on load torque and system inertia) and effectively holds static back-up loads. (Designed for horizontal mounting positions.)
Employs a conical cork element pressed into a matching conical seat via rotor spring tension during power-off states. Provides rapid stopping action within 4 to 6 rotor revolutions and delivers dependable static load holding at the output shaft. (Designed for horizontal mounting positions.)
Features a heavy-duty mechanical pawl arm that positively engages the rotor tooth structure immediately upon power cut-off. Delivers rapid stopping within 1 to 3 rotor revolutions and securely holds heavy back-up loads against reverse rotation. (Suitable for all physical mounting orientations.)

Every customized gearmotor produced at Molon's facilities in Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows, Illinois undergoes rigorous electrical, mechanical, and dielectric testing. Operating under an ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 quality management system, Molon provides full component traceability, PPAP documentation, and strict revision control for international device manufacturers.
Technical guidance from Molon engineering on specifying custom AC and DC motor features.
Molon provides custom output shaft configurations including single or dual shaft extensions, D-flats, keyways, cross-drilled holes, pinions, splines, and special shaft materials engineered to fit client mounting dimensions.
A rotor clutch disengages high-inertia rotor movement from the gear train immediately upon de-energization, stopping drag-type loads at the output shaft quickly and allowing free manual rotation when power is off.
The magnetic positive-action rotor brake utilizes a mechanical pawl arm engaging the rotor stack to stop rotation within 1 to 3 revolutions and hold heavy back-up loads across all physical mounting orientations.
