Question 1

What is a fractional horsepower (FHP) gearmotor?

Accepted Answer

A fractional horsepower gearmotor combines a sub-1 HP electric motor with an integral gear train in one housing. The gear train trades motor speed for output torque, so a compact motor can drive augers, pumps, dampers, valves and conveyors at low RPM with high torque and without an external coupling or reducer.

Question 2

Should I specify an AC, brushless DC or stepper gearmotor?

Accepted Answer

Choose AC shaded pole or PSC gearmotors for continuous line-voltage duty at fixed speed and lowest cost. Choose brushless DC (BLDC) when you need long life, variable speed, high efficiency and battery or 24 VDC supply. Choose PMDC for simple low-cost variable speed on DC power, and stepper gearmotors where open-loop positioning and holding torque are required.

Question 3

Does Molon build custom gearmotors for OEM programs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Molon engineers modify winding data, gear ratios, shaft geometry, lead and connector options, thermal protection, encoders, mounting brackets and finishes to a customer drawing, then validate the design with life, thermal and dielectric testing before medium- to high-volume release.

Question 4

Is Molon certified for medical device manufacturing?

Accepted Answer

Molon operates a quality system registered to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 for medical devices, with documented traceability, first-article inspection and PPAP-style documentation available for regulated programs.

Question 5

Where are Molon motors and gearmotors manufactured?

Accepted Answer

Engineering, tooling, winding and assembly are performed at Molon facilities in Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows, Illinois, USA, supported by a global procurement and logistics network.
